General Guidelines for Edging Lenses Made From Trivex® Material |
|
(Guidelines based on Hoya Labs and Younger Optics input)
- Edging equipment to have a vacuum system attached to remove sward and airborne particulate. This will minimize clogging of the edger.
- Use "other material, acrylic or polycarbonate cycle" settings for best results.
- Use counter rotation of part to edger wheel direction
- If you are not using the latest edging models, try edging dry. You can use water on the final rotation or cycle.
- Use "slow" wheel speed setting for optimum results.
- High-speed blade/cutters work well. Use polycarbonate settings.
- Consult edging manufacturer for adjusting head pressure if undue friction is occurring.

Instructional Videos on Edging Lenses made from Trivex® Material Trivex, the world’s first tri-performance lens material, offers the triple combination of superior optics, impact resistance and ultra light weight. Although lenses made from Trivex material are formulated for processing with standard tooling and machinery, each manufacturer’s equipment responds differently. The instruction videos below provide video demonstrations and information on techniques for edging Trivex for optimal results.
Our first CD, The Trivex Material Edge, provides useful information on edging lenses made from Trivex lens material using the latest models of today’s edgers. The Trivex Material Edge Volume II will give you a better understanding of how to edge lenses made form Trivex material using a variety of popular edgers manufactured and sold before Trivex material was introduced.
